Many times in a car accident case or a truck accident case, the insurance company for the other side will come in early and offer you a settlement.  Maybe $500 or $1,000 and ask you to sign a release.  You don’t have to sign the release right away, and you don’t have to take that settlement right away.

Statute of Limitations In a Personal Injury Case

You have two years from the date of the accident to file a lawsuit or to go forward with your case.  Two years’ statute of limitations, during that two years a lot can happen.  You can find out that your injuries are worse than you thought, you can find out that you have more damages than you thought, or you can go talk to an attorney and the attorney can tell you that your claim is worth more than what they are offering.  Our recommendation is think twice before you settle early and if need be come in and talk us and we will tell you whether that is a far deal or not.
