War Stories: Life Lessons
This week I took a series of depositions in an on the job injury case. The employer does not have Texas worker’s compensation insurance. So, I am suing the employer directly on behalf of the injured employee. This week’s depositions were of co-workers who had prepared written statements that contradicted the injured employee’s testimony. I knew little about the co-workers but remember my father telling me that whenever you have more than 5 people working together, there is gossip and power struggles. So, I dug into gossip at the workplace and, wouldn’t you know it, one of the co-workers had an ax to grind with the injured employee. This co-worker does not like the injured employee and waited almost three years before she told the employer her version of the events. The lesson was that you need to use whatever life lessons you have to do your job. You never know when it will come in handy.
